Our Story & Soul

Rooted in Joy, Guided by Science

Teaching Approach

A Sanctuary Built for Little Explorers

Nurtiva was born when Dr. Sarah Jenkins, an early child development researcher and mother of three, grew frustrated with conventional daycare centers that treated children as passive listeners confined to sterile, plastic rooms.

She envisioned a peaceful architectural sanctuary crafted from rounded natural birch wood, full of living plants, flooded with natural sunlight, and staffed by master educators who honor a child's natural impulse to touch, build, test, and question.

The Power of Reggio & Montessori

Reggio Emilia: The Environment as 3rd Teacher

Children express themselves through 'The Hundred Languages'—sculpting, painting, dramatic roleplay, shadow projections, and music. Projects evolve organically based on what sparks their imagination.

Montessori: Freedom Within Structure

Children choose their own work from prepared shelves and repeat it as long as it holds them. Practical life tasks — pouring, buttoning, sweeping — build the concentration that later carries academic work.

What Guides Us

A Clear Purpose Behind Every Classroom Choice

A group of children sitting on a colorful rug in a kindergarten classroom, reaching excitedly toward a large blue ball decorated with fish being tossed by an adult.
Mission

To create a deeply caring early-learning environment where children feel safe enough to explore, question, collaborate, make mistakes, and try again.

A smiling female teacher with short blonde hair and glasses surrounded closely by a diverse group of young children on a grassy field, all looking happy and engaged.
Vision

To help raise capable, curious, compassionate learners who enter school with strong foundations in language, reasoning, self-regulation, and community care.

What to Expect

You Should Never Have to Guess How Your Child Is Doing

Strong early education works best when home and school share the same information. We keep communication specific, respectful, and practical—from daily routines to long-term developmental goals.

Daily Digital Updates

Meals, naps, toileting, photos, activity notes, and educator observations in the parent app.

Quarterly Development Conferences

A structured conversation about strengths, emerging skills, current interests, and goals for the next learning cycle.

Shared Home-School Strategies

Consistent approaches for separation, sleep, meals, toilet learning, emotional language, and new sibling transitions.

Belonging by Design

A Community Where Families Are Seen, Heard, and Welcomed

Language-Rich Community

English-Spanish exposure, multilingual books, songs, family words, and culturally responsive storytelling.

Families in the Classroom

Open studio mornings, shared cooking sessions, and family-led story hours where parents bring their own traditions into the room.

Every Diet Accommodated

Halal, kosher, vegetarian and allergen-aware menus cooked in the same kitchen, so no child eats a separate meal at a separate table.

Support for Every Learner

Individual plans built with families and, where helpful, with the specialists already working with your child outside the campus.

What are your educator-to-child ratios?

Ratios start at 1:3 in the infant cradle and widen gradually to 1:8 in Kindergarten Prep. Every room keeps a consistent primary educator so your child is known by name, not just supervised.

How long does it take a child to settle in?

Most children settle within two to three weeks. We plan a staggered start with you, keep goodbyes short and predictable, and send a photo once your child has re-engaged with the room.

How do you handle meals and allergies?

All meals and snacks are cooked fresh on campus each morning. The kitchen is fully nut-free, and we cater for allergies, halal, kosher and vegetarian diets without serving a separate meal at a separate table.

Do children go outside in bad weather?

Children go outdoors every day in all but severe weather, with a minimum of 90 minutes in the forest yard. Send waterproofs and boots; we keep spare kit on site for the days you forget.

How will I know how my child's day went?

You'll get daily updates in the parent app covering meals, naps, activities and educator observations, plus a quarterly development conference and a portfolio of your child's work.

Must my child be toilet trained to join?

Not at all. Children join us at every point in the year, and toilet learning is something we support alongside you rather than a requirement for a place.
